Yeah, here's hoping haha. Not yet, actually, but I imagine that's because I'm taking him out every two to four hours. Thankfully, I work at a pet store, so they're pretty understanding about me leaving and coming back so much. He's got a thing for trying to chew on the carpet, though. And he cries all night, so there's that. It's a lot of new things for him, though, so I get it. He'll settle in.
No idea. He just whines all night. Wakes me up every few hours, but once I'm up, he's fine. As soon as I'm asleep again... Maybe he doesn't like sleeping in the crate, but I'm not really a big fan of the idea of sharing my bed with him until I know for sure he won't pee in it.
[ He'd really rather the big fat puppy tears that she's probably picturing than the high pitched whining and barking of reality. ]
I mean they make plush dog toys... I could see if that helps. He has one of my sweatshirts in there with him. You're supposed to put something with your scent on it in the crate with them so they still feel safe when they can't see you. He doesn't seem to mind that when I'm not home. I think it just bugs him when I'm home but can't see me and I'm not giving him attention, either.
Haha probably. He's also a baby, so I'm trying not to be too annoyed by it.
[ He'd love to have the dog share the bed if he's honest because the other side of it has been cold for way too fucking long, but he's not housebroken yet, so it's going to be a little longer. ]
The sad thing is, I'd love to share with him, I just can't trust him yet.
Isn't it? I think it just means being indoors is breaking him of feral habits like peeing wherever he feels like, but it just sounds really harsh and I hate it, personally.
Several months by my best guess. What's another few months in an empty bed, anyway, right?
[ He's been in one since Braeden bailed a couple of years ago, so really, what's the difference if it takes a few months before the puppy can change that?
...and he actually made that joke. To another person. How pathetic and lame can he really be? At least she'll probably take it well and not pick on him too badly for it, if at all. It is Vanya, after all.. ]
[Like she even knows what to do with that joke. Is it a joke? Seems like he's just making a point, in her book. And it's not like she's in any kind of position to judge: Leonard was the first relationship she had in...well, he was the first relationship she had, and look how that turned out. Gaslit and manipulated by someone who was supposed to love her, but that seems pretty par for the course for Number Seven, doesn't it?]
[ Sometimes, her predictability is a huge relief and Derek smiles a little at the message. If she's offended or rolling her eyes over the joke, at least she's not letting him know it. That's nice of her. ]
Yeah, really though. I've been seriously considering reconsidering my morning runs and whether they need to continue to be a thing if this dog won't let me sleep.
And sleeping in isn't all it's cracked up to be. [Especially if it's depression sleep, guess who has had a life of over medicated, weird sleep swings? Definitely this girl.]
I feel like he'd like the run. I WISH he'd like the sleeping in, but I feel like you're wrong on that one.
I don't really feel like I'm missing much. I haven't done it since I was in high school and I turned out okay. Mostly.
[ That's meant to be a joke, but the joke is more that Derek's still pretty fucked up, he just hides it well. He's pretty sure that's got nothing to do with his sleep schedule, though. ]
That feels like a fair compromise, actually. You're kind of a genius.
[ It's never really occurred to Derek to just go back to sleep once he's up. It seems like a waste, usually, but now with this puppy, it actually sounds like a good idea. ]

[Her experience with dogs is so minimal that she really just assumes they pee on your stuff and eat and are cute, because people say so.]

[She is, 100%, picturing an animated dog crying, and it's very alarming to her.]

Do they make stuffed animals for dogs? Maybe having something in there will make him feel better

Shit is that even what it's called, I don't think it is

It's technically called housebreaking but I kind of hate that term so secretly, I use potty training in my own head.

like you're breaking him, or he's breaking the house

For...however long that takes.

Won't be a problem if he keeps waking you up.

no one would blame you for sleeping in
I bet Chance would like it too. As long as you include him.

The run or the sleeping in?

[It's not a bad joke, because Vanya smiles. There's a certain macabre tone that fellow fucked up people just get.]
Sounds like a case for not sleeping in, then. You turned out better.

Eh, I don't know about all that.
