[She's still only picked a little at her bread, cake, whatever, but she doesn't look particularly sorry about it. It's a little like she's getting used to food again; things taste different now, and she wonders, not for the first time, if she has Dad's medication to thank for that.
Background musings aside, though, she sounds honest enough: it's hard for most people to tell the difference between her enthusiasm and her uncertainty, but he can probably suss it out more easily. She likes the idea of him texting her.]
Yeah, sure. I hope work's...good? [Lord she is bad at this.]
[ Derek smiles a little and nods, glad to hear that she's willing to potentially do this again; that she's okay with him texting her to do this again because that means maybe he's successfully made himself a friend out of something as simple as paying attention when someone else was talking. Texting. Whatever it's called when it's online. It's significantly more of a challenge to make friends as an adult, so he's glad at least one thing is going to be easy: talking to Vanya is easy. ]
Cool. I will, then.
[ Gathering his trash together so that it'll be easy to toss it on his way out when he gets up, Derek smirks a little. ]
I think I got lucky. It's hard for work to be anything other than good when your job is spending time with puppies.
[ He pushes himself to his feet then and looks around for a trash can before turning his attention back to Vanya. ]
I'll talk to you soon, Vanya. Thanks for coming out.
Definitely lucky. [She's been having a surprisingly good time, so there's barely any frustration in her voice. Her work problems are, well at least a little sorted, and that has to be good enough for now. At least until she finds the courage to have anything to do with music again.
Vanya stays where she is, ostensibly to finish her food, but also a little bit because it just feels less awkward than walking out with him. That could so easily turn into a case of saying good bye and then walking in the same direction, and she would much prefer to avoid the possibility.
So instead she smiles up at him, genuinely satisfied with how the occasion turned out.]
Yeah. Thanks for asking me. [She hopes, offering a small wave as he goes, that he'll ask again.]
You should stop by sometime. Puppies actually do make everything better. I do classes at the PetMart.
[ He rolls his eyes at himself at just how dumb that sounds to admit to. A werewolf. Training puppies at a big box pet store. What the hell is his life?
Derek gives her a small wave as he steps away, actually throwing his things away before starting away from the table. Before he actually leaves, he calls over his shoulder. ]
I'll see you soon.
[ It's because he's confident that this went well and he will see her around sooner than later.
And with that, Derek heads out of the cafe to go home and get ready for work. ]
