[ A part of him wants to counter because he's sure she'll be good company all the same, but another part of him wonders if this is as close as someone like Vanya will ever get to "just fuck off, Derek." It's starting to sink in between the length between texts (she could be busy or she could be trying to figure out a way to be nice about it) and the fact that it's the first time since they've been hanging out that she's pushed back instead of just letting him know when would be better if the proposed time wasn't. ]

[ Even if he's not the most socially savvy, he can at least tell when he's being dismissed. The smiley face suggests that at least she's not mad at him and, since it doesn't occur to him that she could've just put it there to assuage his worries so he'll leave her alone, it relaxes him enough to let the conversation go. ]
